gets to Matlock as they crash out of the Cup
Matlock
C.C 1st XI 166 for 9 Two years ago Matlock reached the final of the Castlemaine Cup and the proud 1st XI and all their supporters thoroughly enjoyed the splendour of the occasion. It is however sad that very few of the current players seem to remember that occasion as they were dumped ignominiously out of this years Cup without so much as a whimper, by an under par Ticknall side at Causeway Lane on Sunday. Ticknall batting first were indebted to S. Khan (39), S, Jubber (31) and T. Cosford (28) as they posted a total of 192 all out, a score well below their capabilities and one that should not have posed many problems for the home side. For Matlock all the bowlers shared the wickets with Christoff Visser leading the way with 2 for 9, Jonathan Stapleton (2 for 18), Ed Lander (2 for 37), Martin Leatherday (2 for 42), Adam Burton (1 for 31) and George Moulds (1 for 46). Ticknall's total was never remotely in danger, for Visser (24), Eddie Lowe (36 not out) and Steve Pell (31) apart, the rest of the batsmen were poor to say the least as one after another they surrendered their wickets in submissive style, and although they reached 166 for the loss of 9 wickets, it was a score that flattered them greatly. S Jubber was the bowler to inflict most damage as he returned figures of 6 for 26 and he was well supported by S. Khan (1 for 12) and G. Chamberlain (1 for 30). Matlock's next league game is at Ticknall next Saturday when they must deliver a much better performance than the one in this game.
