Reports from senior games, click on headlines Firmly in control for winning draw Matlock
II 150 for 8 v Heanor Town II 128 for 5 After the previous weeks defeat at Shipley Matlock were looking to get their first win of the season at home to Heanor Town. Matlock batted first on a dry but very slow paced wicket. Andy Roberts and Tim Jeffery made steady progress against an experienced Heanor attack. Jeffery then tried to cut a delivery that lifted to be caught behind for 12. Rob Lowe, returning to the team after recent illness, joined Roberts in the middle. The pair looked comfortable until Lowe was unfortunately run out for 13. Young Matt Roberts making his debut for the team soon followed and when the energetic Roberts was caught at slip for 23, Matlock were struggling on 51 for 4. Matlock were indeed fortunate to have the experienced Steve Webster and ever improving Tom Coey to steady the ship. The pair battled sensibly taking runs wherever possible putting in a stand of 50 until Coey was bowled for 19. Webster soon followed for a patient 37. It was then left to veteran Andy Hawkmoon to produce some fine shots including a towering 6 over deep mid-wicket to push Matlock's closing score onto 150 Hawkmoon finishing on 20 not out. Heanor openers Matthews and Brear found the experienced opening Matlock attack of Steve Haslam (1 for 28) and Dave Lane extremely frugal as the first sixteen overs only resulted in 34 runs. Frustration began to grow and after Haslam bowled Matthews fellow opener Brear was run out by the dynamic Rob Lowe. Matlock turned to the ever reliable Hawkmoon whose spell of 12 overs in which he claimed 3 for 22 put Matlock firmly in control of the game, earning the winning draw as Heanor's innings finished on 128 for 5.
