demolishes Rolleston
Matlock
C.C 1st XI 180 for 8 (27 points) For those people visiting Causeway Lane at the present time, they will witness the demolition taking place on the football ground as they prepare for their new stand in 2010. Supporters attending Matlock Cricket Club's Division 1 game at Causeway Lane last Saturday will have been privileged to witness demolition of a different sought, as the home side's bowlers annihilated a strong Rolleston batting order. Matlock lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a green wicket but after getting off to a flyer when they raced to 39 off the first 4 overs, with Caleb Mierkalns in destructive mood making 26, the introduction of J. Thompson into the visitors attack reduced the home side to 52 for 4 and some big names back in the pavilion. At this point it needed application and concentration to resurrect the situation and Steve Pell played a skipper's innings with a well compiled 45 in the middle order, receiving equally good support from Gareth Johnson (16) and a confident Adam Burton (27), as they posted an impressive yet competitive 180 for 8 at 50 overs. For Rolleston Thompson returned figures of 3 for 28 along with G. Dent who bowled his usual economical spell to finish with 3 for 31. M. James was the other bowler to claim success taking 2 for 78 but he did suffer at the hands of Mierkalns who took 24 from his 2nd over. What happened next when the visitors batted almost defied believe when the scoreboard read Ð Runs 1, Wickets 4, Overs 10 as the fearsome pairing of Christoff Visser and Adam Burton wreaked havoc with the Rolleston batting. C. Colley (32) and G. Marshall (20) did offer token resistance as they survived the onslaught temporarily, but it was nothing more as they were shot out for a paltry 68 runs in 37 overs, with 9 of their batsmen contributing just 5 runs between them. South African Visser bowled magnificently taking 6 for 23 from 15 overs, as did Burton who returned 2 for 5 from 11 overs and with Johnson chipping in with 2 for 7 from 4 overs, the shell-shocked visitors were left to contemplate the long journey back down the A38 with just 4 points, with Matlock taking a full 27 point for the win. Next league game for Matlock 1st XI will be the visit of a strong Denby side on Saturday the 27th June..
